Hosting Home Parties

By: Mom Index

Many moms are familiar with direct sales companies and in-home parties.  If you intend to purchase products from a direct sales company, consider hosting a party for your friends and family.  You will have an opportunity to shop, to socialize and to relax while you earn credit or product discounts from your favorite business.

There are several benefits to hosting a party.  You can connect with your friends or schedule a girl’s night out without leaving your home or hiring a sitter.  You can save money on the products you already intend to purchase.  By driving sales to your representative, you can support a friend in her quest to pursue a sales role and to earn a living.  In addition, if you are considering a sales position, you can host a party to assess whether the role is a good fit based on your personal goals and objectives.  Finally, you can host a party to raise funds for a charitable cause or non-profit organization.

If you choose to host a party, you will have time to unwind and to socialize because the sales consultant is responsible for the sales component of the party.  Often, the consultant provides invitations, attends the party, displays the product portfolio, discusses the features and benefits of the product, takes orders and then processes, ships and oversees all orders.  Therefore, as a host, you are able to earn rewards, to shop, to listen to the sales presentation and to experience the products and services with minimal responsibility.

You can select from a wide range of businesses for your party.  Consider your needs, lifestyle and interests to determine which products would best appeal to you and your social network.  For example, you can choose companies that specialize in spa products, wine, jewelry, candles, art, fitness or weight loss.  Some mom friendly companies include The Pampered Chef, Kelly’s Kids, Uppercase Living and Anna William.  Before you schedule a party, ensure you select a reputable and ethical business by visiting the Better Business Bureau® (BBB) website to determine if there are any reported claims against the company.

Hostesses can access a variety of online resources to prepare for their party.  If you select a company, visit the company website prior to your party to peruse the product or service line and to determine what type of party is appropriate for your event.   There are also several web based companies that are dedicated to providing support and ideas for sales parties and hostesses.  Visit these sites and consult with your sales representative to learn about additional company policies and nuances such a seasonal lines, sales incentives and fundraising opportunities.
