Gym Time for Infants and Young Children

As a mom, you might be searching for facilities that offer recreational programs to stimulate and to entertain your children.  Children’s gyms are popular facilities among parents because they host a range of activities for infants and young children in a fun and nurturing environment.  If you obtain a membership at a facility, you can enroll your children in parent participation or independent fitness classes and obtain member benefits such as admission to child free play sessions, participation in parent’s night out programs and access to exclusive discounts at online and local retailers.

Children’s gyms exist as independent facilities or as franchise operations.  Many strive to offer programs and activities that foster a range of social and developmental skills in children, strengthen family relationships and parenting skills and facilitate quality time for parents and their children.  Through participation in various programs, children have opportunities to socialize with peers, to reach developmental milestones and most importantly, to have fun.  Staff members expose children to a combination of fitness equipment, games and songs that are unique to their brand or facility.  As children mature and progress through classes, they learn to take direction from and to respect their instructors and they also gain confidence in their ability to challenge themselves in a non-competitive environment.

In addition to formal classes, children’s gyms host birthday parties, preschool play dates or parenting group play dates.  During the summer or when school is not in session, many gyms offer daily or weekly camp sessions.  On occasion, gyms sponsor special events such as fundraisers or open house sessions.  If you attend these events, you can meet the staff and gain additional insight into course offerings.  Another way to experience a gym and to assess fit for you and your children is to attend a trial class.  Search in local publications or contact your nearest facility for trial class coupons and information.
