Sing and Dance at Westcor’s Kids ClubBy: Mom Index
Westcor, the well-known Phoenix based owner and manager of commercial properties, hosts a free Kids Club at seven local shopping centers. Kids Club events are offered at each location either on a weekly or monthly basis. These interactive and entertaining events are best suited for children ages five and under. Given that each program lasts one hour, Mom Index recommends parents or caregivers pack a lunch or light snack to keep children engaged throughout the performance.
At events, children have the opportunity to sing, to dance and to interact with other children as well as with Westcor mascots Dewper the Prairie Dog and Webster the Warthog. In addition, to singing, dancing and interacting with Westcor mascots, children can listen to Westcor’s Persephone tell stories and request audience participation for fun and educational activities. Families attending events in play areas, such as the play area at Paradise Valley Mall, can enjoy the facilities prior to or at the conclusion of the scheduled program.
Registration entitles participants to discounts at area retailers as well as to special offers from Westcor partners and club sponsors. Since retailers vary by location, Mom Index recommends parents request a list of participating retailers at each event. Kids Club representatives are on-site to answer questions and to provide information to parents and caregivers. Membership benefits for children include a personalized membership card and perks such as toys, products or edible treats at each event. Children can also write special messages to Persephone and the Westcor mascots.
Westcor also sponsors events to benefit the Phoenix community. For example, in August, Westcor is hosting a denim event to benefit The Boys and Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix. These charitable events offer parents a forum to teach their children about philanthropy as well as means to improve their community and to spend quality time as a family.

Make a Splash at Local FountainsBy: Mom Index
There are several fountain facilities for children in the Phoenix area. These facilities are open throughout the summer and offer a day of recreation for toddlers and young children. Popular facilities are located at Valley shopping destinations including Tempe Marketplace, Desert Ridge Marketplace, Kierland Commons, Outlets at Anthem and San Tan Village. These fountains are considered safe for public use. However, you can visit the facility websites or call the management offices to learn more about fountain designs, county health inspections, maintenance and hours of operation.
A key benefit of spending time at a local fountain is that children can interact with the water and have fun with minimal gear and water experience. Although swim diapers are required for children who are not yet potty trained, there are few restrictions regarding attire and play. Therefore, pack basic swim and outdoor gear such as waterproof sunscreen, bathing suits, water shoes, small water toys such as inflatable balls or beach buckets, towels and sunglasses.
Since interactive fountains are located at shopping centers,
civic centers and local attractions such as the Phoenix Zoo, you can incorporate fountain
play time into a full day or evening adventure.
For example, attend a free Westcor
Kids Club event at San Tan Village, grab lunch at your favorite restaurant
and then cool off with the kids at the fountains. If you prefer an evening outing, participate
in a Prowl
& Play event at the Phoenix Zoo.
The kids can splash in the fountains and also enjoy age appropriate rides
and activities.
